You can find lives hidden in the level through exploration, so it rewards players who take their time. You can use it to climb walls or launch yourself in the air when using the Star handle which will allow you to zip through the air in with a move that the game refers to as "Meteor Stirke" (Btw the Star handles are really similar in concept to the Launch Stars in Mario Galaxy) The games level design is great, with having multiple paths to the objective and the difficulty is just right. There are tons of ways you can utilize the grab besides just grabbing enemies. Similarly of how the physics and speed did in the Sonic games. This is really the central mechanic of Ristar and it's one that the entire game revolves around. Ristar can't jump on enemies so you will have to grab them by stretching out Ristar's arm. The gameplay is also really fun and unique. Ont the presentation side it's the complete package. The game has some catchy as well as pleasantly relaxing music. Sonic team pushed the visuals really far and the game doesn't suffer any noticeable framerate problems either. Well for starters the first thing anyone would notice is that the game looks gorgeous and made excellent use out of the systems limited color palette and might just be the best looking game on the system. Especially since Ristar seems way more suited for 3D than Sonic does but anyway that's just my opinion. I would have gladly taken more Ristar sequels instead of Sonic sequels.

For me it's a sad realization because Sonic peaked with S3&K and it was only downhill from there. The game was developed by Sonic team and was kind of meant to be a successor to Sonic The Hedgehog. The Sega Saturn was right around the corner and this game got lost as a result. Sadly however it never got much exposure thanks to coming out so late in the consoles lifecycle in 1995.

I'm just going to come out and say this upfront, Ristar was one of the best games on the system full stop.
